Development Road Review Meeting

A high-level meeting was held to check how far Iraq has moved forward on the Development Road project, one of the country’s biggest long-term plans. The discussion covered everything from design work to costs and future operations.

During the meeting, officials reviewed the timelines given by the auditing firm in charge of checking the railway and road designs. They also went over the estimated costs for both the rail line and the road corridor. Three consulting firms — KBR, Oliver Wyman, and BTP — presented their operating plans and updates.

Participants looked at the progress of every part of the Development Road project, along with the legal steps tied to the operation of Grand Faw Port. This included talks about a possible joint management system with Abu Dhabi Ports.

Oliver Wyman also shared details about the start of the third phase of its support program, after finishing the first two phases.

In the end, the meeting emphasized the importance of choosing the strongest operating plan and settling any remaining decisions quickly. The goal is to keep the project moving forward, since the Development Road is seen as a key piece of Iraq’s future economic growth.
