The Diyala Provincial Council said on Saturday that the province sends up to 11 billion dinars every month to the state treasury from electricity bills, yet it receives less than 30% of the power it actually needs.
Council Chairman Salem al-Tamimi told dinaropinions.com that Diyala pays around 11 billion dinars each month from electricity collections, but the province only gets about 670 megawatts of power. He explained that Diyala’s real need is closer to 2,400 megawatts, meaning it receives far less than what is required to meet demand.
He said this gap has put the province in a very tough situation and has led to frequent power cuts across all cities.
Al-Tamimi stressed that Diyala deserves fair treatment, especially since it is one of the provinces with the highest bill collection rates. He called on the relevant authorities to seriously address the issue and ensure the province receives an electricity supply that matches its real needs.
