Finance Ministry: Iraq achieved the second highest level of improvement globally in international governance indicators.

The Ministry of Finance announced on Tuesday that Iraq has achieved a new international milestone in the World Governance Indicators (WGI) report issued in December 2024, which is recognized by international rating agencies Fitch and Standard & Poor’s.

In a statement received by dinaropinions.com, the ministry said Iraq recorded the second-highest annual improvement score globally, reflecting what it described as the success of government reform measures across state institutions.

According to the statement, Iraq’s governance score rose from 29.5 points in 2023 to 32.5 points in 2024, marking a notable improvement based on official international data.

The ministry explained that the strongest gains were achieved in three key areas:

  • Government effectiveness, which increased by 4.6 points
  • Control of corruption, which rose by 4.3 points
  • Regulatory quality, which improved by 4.0 points

It added that progress was also recorded in freedom of expression and accountability, political stability and absence of violence, rule of law, and overall government performance. These improvements, the ministry said, help strengthen confidence among the international community, donors, and investors in Iraq’s economic environment.

The Ministry of Finance emphasized that this progress resulted from strict commitment to the government’s economic reform program, continued automation of financial procedures, and the expansion of e-governance systems, all aimed at serving national interests and enhancing Iraq’s standing in international indicators and forums.
