Former MP Hassan Fad’am said on Sunday that the United States is mainly focused on forming an Iraqi government that protects its own interests and supports its projects inside the country. He stressed that choosing the next prime minister is the responsibility of the Coordination Framework.
Fad’am explained that Washington is not worried about names or personalities. What matters to the U.S., he said, is having a government that fits its goals and protects its political and economic interests in Iraq.
He added that the American side wants a prime minister who will safeguard U.S. companies and projects and make sure their interests continue without disruption.
According to Fad’am, any future Iraqi government will have to work within international balances and carefully manage Iraq’s relationships with other countries. Because of that, he said the final decision on the next prime minister will come from within the Coordination Framework, taking these regional and international factors into account.
In short, Fad’am said the choice will not be random—it will be shaped by global pressures, political realities, and the need to balance Iraq’s interests with those of powerful international players.
