Gas Conversion of Iraqi Brick Factories Reviewed

A meeting was held to review progress in converting brick factories to gas-based operations and to assess their production capacities in line with domestic market demand.

According to officials, the discussions focused on environmental compliance and adherence to standards aimed at reducing pollution, as well as the challenges facing factories that have already completed the conversion and those still undergoing the process.

Minister of Industry and Minerals Khalid Battal al-Najm stressed the importance of transitioning to gas as a strategic step to strengthen national industrial production while protecting the environment.

He directed the General Directorate for Industrial Development to prepare a comprehensive inventory of brick factories that have converted to gas systems, giving priority to facilities with high production capacity. The inventory is to be submitted to the Ministerial Council for the Economy for further review.

The minister also instructed that challenges and obstacles identified during the discussions be referred to the Industrial Coordination Council to examine the issues and propose practical solutions aimed at supporting production efficiency and ensuring the sustainability of the sector.
