The International Labour Organization (ILO) has finished the final stage of an advanced training program designed to strengthen Public Employment Services (PES) in the Kurdistan Region and Ninewa. The goal is to improve how people find jobs, how employers find workers, and how the labor market is managed overall.
This program is part of a larger effort to modernize employment services and prepare institutions for Iraq’s upcoming national Employment Strategy.
Participants were trained using two key ILO guides:
- “How to Support a Job Seeker?” – focusing on career advice, job matching, and helping vulnerable people enter the workforce.
- “How to Support an Employer?” – helping PES teams build better partnerships with companies and understand their hiring needs.
The training covered practical issues such as recruitment support, employer outreach, digital tools, skill shortages, and what companies expect from job-ready applicants. It also helped strengthen cooperation between PES offices, university career centers, and the private sector.
