In response to Al-Sadr’s call, a parliamentarian announces the start of collecting signatures to close the American embassy in Baghdad

Burhan Al-Mamouri, a member of the Iraqi Parliament, announced on Friday that he plans to start a campaign to gather signatures in order to vote on a resolution at the Parliament for the closure of the American embassy in Baghdad. This is in response to the recent call made by Muqtada Al-Sadr, the leader of the Sadrist movement.

Al-Maamouri announced today that, at the request of Al-Sadr, there will be a campaign to gather signatures from fellow MPs in favor of closing the American embassy.

“We will request the Presidency of Parliament to hold an emergency session to propose a draft law that would lead to the closure of the American embassy. The House of Representatives will then vote on the draft law to make it binding,” he said.
