Including oil and gas.. A parliamentarian reveals the main reason behind not approving important laws

The lack of consensus prevented the adoption of important economic and political laws, including those related to oil and gas, in Iraq according to Muhammad Al-Ziyadi, the representative of the State of Law coalition.

In a statement, Al-Ziyadi remarked that the House of Representatives has failed to pass any crucial laws except for the draft budget since the beginning of its current session. He noted that this has subjected them to a lot of criticism. Additionally, he pointed out that the government hasn’t presented any legislation to Parliament, except for the budget, since its appointment.

According to him, the lack of agreement among political parties is the reason why important laws that directly affect citizens’ lives have not been passed.

Al-Ziyadi urged state administration forces to convene new sessions to agree on laws, including oil and gas, and instruct government and parliament to vote on them.

Mudar Al-Karawi, a member of the Legal Committee, stated previously to Al-Maalouma that the House of Representatives will propose more than 20 laws. The most significant of these is the oil and gas law, but its resolution will require political consensus from all parties involved.
