International media reported on Tuesday that major energy companies in India have started cutting gas supplies to local buyers because of disruptions in global supply chains.
According to informed sources, GAIL and Indian Oil Corporation have officially notified customers about varying reductions in gas deliveries starting today. The reason is a shortage of shipments coming from overseas production sources.
The supply issues are linked to delays in liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker deliveries, caused by rising geopolitical tensions and the temporary shutdown of key facilities in neighboring countries. As a result, Indian companies are now turning to the spot market to secure gas — but at much higher prices.
The cuts are expected to directly impact India’s fertilizer, petrochemical, and power generation sectors. There are also growing concerns that if shipping disruptions continue, the crisis could spread to transportation fuels and even household gas supplies.
