Luxembourg — October 20, 2025 — Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, met on Monday with Gelsomina Vigliotti, Vice-President of the European Investment Bank (EIB), at the Bank’s headquarters in Luxembourg to discuss strengthening economic cooperation and expanding partnership in development and investment.
Talks focused on global economic developments and their regional implications, with special emphasis on Iraq’s efforts to revitalize its economy, empower the private sector, and reduce dependence on public spending.
Minister Hussein reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to deepening cooperation with international financial institutions, particularly the EIB, to support key infrastructure projects, stimulate investment, and advance sustainable development. He also emphasized the need to complete procedures for signing a framework agreement between Iraq and the EIB to launch broader joint initiatives.
Vice-President Vigliotti expressed the Bank’s readiness to provide financial support, technical expertise, and advisory services for projects that promote economic stability and sustainable growth in Iraq, following the signing of the agreement.
