Iraq and Turkmenistan stress the importance of cooperation in the field of gas supply

Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani and Minister of State for Gas Affairs of the Republic of Turkmenistan, Maksat Babayev, emphasized the importance of collaboration in the gas supply sector on Friday.

The Ministry of Oil released a statement to “Al-Ma’louma” news, stating that the Minister of Oil, during his meeting with Maksat Babayev, the Minister of State for Gas Affairs of Turkmenistan, discussed expanding the horizons of cooperation in the oil and energy sector. The statement also highlighted that Iraq and Turkmenistan have great potential in these areas. The Iraqi government and the Ministry of Oil are committed to strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation with Turkmenistan in oil and energy.

During a statement, Abdul Ghani emphasized the significance of collaboration in the gas supply to power plants. He highlighted signing a memorandum of understanding as a vital step towards improving cooperation. He also encouraged companies in the Republic of Turkmenistan to explore promising investment opportunities in various fields announced by the Ministry.

The statement reads that Maksat Babayev, the Minister of State for Gas Affairs of the Republic of Turkmenistan, is pleased with the bilateral cooperation between the two countries. He considers signing the memorandum of understanding to supply gas to Iraq as the start of increased prospects for bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

According to a statement, Minister of Electricity Ziad Ali Fadel has confirmed that the memorandum of understanding signed with Turkmenistan is one of the quick solutions being considered by the Ministerial Council for Energy. The aim is to enhance production and increase processing hours for the benefit of citizens.

During a recent meeting, Izzat Saber, the Undersecretary for Gas Affairs, expressed that the signing of a memorandum and agreement with Turkmenistan was the result of a collaborative effort by the joint ministerial team between the Ministries of Oil and Electricity. This effort included intensive discussions and meetings during their visit to the Republic of Turkmenistan last August. The agreement was reached through mutual agreement to work towards common goals.

The meeting was attended by several officials from the Ministries of Oil and Electricity, according to the statement.
