Iraq Approves Loan Initiative for Unemployed Drivers

Iraq’s Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has launched a new loan program designed to help reduce unemployment by creating real job opportunities for people who are currently out of work.

Through this initiative, the Ministry’s Department of Labour and Vocational Training will offer loans that allow unemployed citizens to buy modern passenger vehicles with 11 to 21 seats. These loans are only available to people who are already registered in the Ministry’s unemployment database and who have the proper driving licence.

The idea is straightforward: once a person gets the loan and buys the vehicle, they will be hired by specialised transport companies. These companies, approved by the Ministry, will sign contracts with government departments that need transportation for their employees.

The program also includes an electronic app that will help citizens request transportation services. It will support school and university students as well as private-sector companies that need daily transport.

Approved transport companies will sign renewable yearly contracts with the borrowers, hiring both the driver and the vehicle. Monthly salaries will be paid through bank cards, and regular deductions will be made for social security.

In short, the Ministry wants to give unemployed Iraqis a practical path to stable work—by helping them buy a vehicle, connecting them with trusted employers, and making sure the process is organized and secure.
