Iraq, Egypt Advance Pharma and Healthcare Cooperation

Iraq’s Minister of Health, Dr. Saleh Mahdi Al-Hasnawi, spent the past few days in Cairo, meeting with top Egyptian officials to push forward stronger cooperation in healthcare, medicine, and regulation between the two countries.

One of his key stops was the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), where he was welcomed by its chairman, Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawi. Their talks were direct and focused. They discussed how both countries can work together on drug regulation, medicine registration, quality control, and pharmaceutical manufacturing. They also looked at ways to train their teams together through joint programmes, workshops, and capacity-building efforts. The goal is simple: better drug safety, stronger oversight, and higher-quality healthcare for people in both Iraq and Egypt.

Dr. Al-Hasnawi also met with Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health, Dr. Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar, during the PHDC’25 global conference. Their meeting covered several important areas, including developing the pharmaceutical industry, expanding training opportunities for medical professionals, and bringing specialised Egyptian medical teams to support healthcare services in Iraq. They also discussed how universities, hospitals, and medical institutions in both countries can work together more closely.

At the end of the meetings, both sides made it clear that they are committed to keeping this cooperation moving forward. They agreed to build on the memoranda of understanding already in place, with a shared focus on improving healthcare services and boosting pharmaceutical capabilities for the future.
