Iraq ranks first among the countries that hold the largest US bonds

The US Treasury Department announced on Thursday that Iraq is one of the largest foreign holders of US bonds.

According to the most recent table from the Treasury, Iraq has climbed one rank on the list of countries with the largest holdings of US Treasury bonds. Despite a decrease of $400 million in its bond holdings for July, Iraq now sits at 36th place out of the 38 countries listed in the table.

According to her statement, Iraq had possession of bonds worth 32.6 billion dollars in July, which is a decrease of 1.21% from the month of June when Iraq had possession of bonds worth 33 billion dollars. Additionally, this is a decrease of 6.12% from the month of June in the year 2022.

According to the Treasury, Iraq is the fourth largest Arab country, following Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, and Kuwait. Japan is the country with the largest holding of these bonds, with $1.112 trillion. China comes in second with $821 billion, followed by the United Kingdom with $662 billion and Luxembourg with $349 billion. Belgium is in fifth place with $318 billion.

In July, countries around the world issued $103 billion more in bonds than in June, bringing the total to $7.654 trillion.
