The Iraqi Securities Commission (ISC) has released its 2025 performance indicators for the Iraq Stock Exchange (ISX), showing continued market development and a shift toward more sustainable, structured growth compared with 2024.
Listed Companies
The total number of listed and registered joint-stock companies reached 112.
The number of companies actively listed on trading platforms increased from 104 in 2024 to 118 in 2025, while registrations on the ISX over-the-counter (OTC) platform rose sharply from five to 14 companies, reflecting broader market participation.
Equity Trading Activity
During 2025, total shares traded amounted to 438.76 billion shares, with a trading value of IQD 531.55 billion (approximately $406 million).
The number of executed contracts reached 193,401, representing a 5.7% increase year-on-year, indicating steady investor engagement despite a more consolidated trading environment.
Government Bonds
Government bond trading remained stable across both years. However, 2025 saw the introduction of new issuances, including National Bonds, Reconstruction Bonds, and Achievement Bonds, expanding the range of sovereign debt instruments available to investors and supporting capital market diversification.
Market Indices
By the end of 2025, the ISX60 Index closed at 983.31 points, while the ISX15 Index reached 1,194.94 points, reflecting moderate but stable market performance.
Market Capitalisation
Total market capitalisation rose to IQD 23.67 trillion in 2025, marking a 6% increase compared with 2024, underlining gradual growth in listed company valuations.
Corporate Governance and Disclosure
Corporate governance indicators improved, with general assembly meetings increasing from 72 companies in 2024 to 77 in 2025.
The number of companies approving capital increases rose from 17 to 19, while financial reporting standards and dividend distributions remained stable, according to the ISC.
Market Assessment
The Commission described 2024 as a year of high trading volumes and strong price movements, while 2025 represented a consolidation phase, characterised by structural expansion, improved governance, and a broader investor base.
The ISC said the indicators reflect a maturing market environment and ongoing efforts to enhance transparency, efficiency, and long-term sustainability within Iraq’s capital markets.
