The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has announced that customs duties and taxes at border crossings will only be collected in Iraqi dinars and not US dollars.
Full statement from the KRG:
As per the Council of Ministers’ Decree No. 227, dated September 20, 2023, all customs duties and taxes levied at border crossings must be paid exclusively in Iraqi dinars instead of US dollars. Failure to comply with this new regulation will result in penalties.
In accordance with Article 8 of the Kurdistan Regional’s Council of Ministers Law (amended No. 3 of 1992), and based on the recommendation of the Minister of Finance and Economy, this decree establishes that only the Iraqi dinar shall be accepted for payment of customs duties and taxes at all border crossings.
The decree mandates that all relevant government institutions comply with the regulation, with violations at border crossings subject to punishment.
