Yesterday, leaders from Iraq’s judiciary and security sectors convened at the Supreme Judicial Council’s headquarters. Their goal was to establish protocols for addressing any attempts to manipulate the value of the Iraqi dinar, and to hold accountable any parties found to be involved in such actions.
A recent statement from the Supreme Judicial Council disclosed that a meeting was convened, attended by the Public Prosecution Service head, the Judicial Supervision Authority head, and senior investigative judges from the second and third Karkh Investigation Courts, as well as the Rusafa Investigation Court, which handles cases of integrity and economic crime. The meeting also had the presence of the head of the National Security Agency and an undersecretary, who is the Minister of the Interior for Intelligence Affairs.
At the meeting, the topic of discussion was the manipulation of the Iraqi dinar’s value against the dollar. They explored the most effective methods and strategies to address this issue and ensure that those responsible are held accountable according to the current laws. This was stated in a press release.
On this Monday, the Supreme Judicial Council has made an announcement regarding the arrest of individuals suspected of engaging in questionable banking activities.
During the trial, it was revealed that the accused had used businesses as a guise to illegally export money from Iraq. Authorities discovered the companies in various locations in Baghdad and confiscated approximately $15 million. The central bank received the funds following the Anti-Money Laundering Office’s report, which indicated that the accused had engaged in suspicious activity by monopolizing the dollar currency in this manner.
