Baims, a Kuwait-based education technology firm, has acquired MedMasters, an Iraqi online marketplace focused on medical education. The deal marks Baims’ entry into Iraq and its second major acquisition.

Expanding into Iraq’s edtech market

The acquisition gives Baims direct access to Iraq’s growing medical student community through a platform built specifically for local needs.

MedMasters was founded in Baghdad by Iraqi entrepreneurs Abdulazeez Salam and Zaid Al-Zamili, both graduates of the University of Baghdad. The company developed a mobile-first platform that serves thousands of medical students across Iraq and built distribution networks within medical colleges nationwide.

Strategic significance

For Baims, the deal represents:

  • Entry into the Iraqi market
  • Expansion into medical education for the first time
  • Access to a young and growing student population

Baims already operates in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, and the United Kingdom, offering recorded academic courses and one-on-one tutoring for university and high school students.

Broader investment trend

The acquisition reflects rising investor interest in Iraq’s underdeveloped digital education sector. With a youthful population and increasing demand for academic support services, Iraq is emerging as a new frontier for regional edtech platforms seeking growth beyond more saturated Gulf markets.

As competition intensifies in established GCC countries, companies like Baims appear to be targeting Iraq as a high-growth expansion opportunity.
