Michael Saylor, the founder of MicroStrategy (now known simply as Strategy), may be getting ready to make the company’s 100th Bitcoin purchase.
On Sunday, Saylor posted a short and cryptic message on X: “The Orange Century.” He included a screenshot from the company’s Bitcoin tracker, which lists every purchase Strategy has made since it started buying Bitcoin back in August 2020.
In the past, posts like this have often come right before the company announces a new Bitcoin buy. So many in the market believe another purchase could be coming soon.
So far, Strategy has bought 717,131 BTC across 99 separate purchases. The average price per coin is around $76,027. If the company buys again, it would mark its 100th Bitcoin acquisition.
Bitcoin, however, is still under pressure. It’s down nearly 48% from its all-time high of $126,080. Despite the drop, Strategy hasn’t slowed down. The company has continued buying for 12 straight weeks.
Saylor has long described Bitcoin as a long-term store of value and a hedge against inflation. Even during sharp price swings, he has stayed firm in his belief and continued adding to the company’s holdings.
To fund these purchases, Strategy has used different financial tools, including convertible debt and selling shares. This aggressive approach has raised some concerns. The company’s stock is down more than 61% over the past six months. Still, since its first Bitcoin purchase, the shares remain up nearly 950%, according to Google Finance data.
Some analysts worry that if Bitcoin keeps falling, Strategy could face refinancing pressure. But Saylor has pushed back on those concerns. He has said the company could handle a drop to $8,000 per Bitcoin without threatening its financial stability, arguing that its debt levels are manageable compared to its holdings.
At current prices, Strategy’s Bitcoin stash is worth more than $47 billion. On paper, the company is sitting on a loss of about 13.6%. Even so, Saylor appears unfazed — and may soon add even more Bitcoin to the balance sheet.
