Former MP Arif al-Hamami says there is growing anger over the political moves of Mohammed al-Halbousi, the head of the Progress Party.

Al-Hamami said al-Halbousi has turned against the State of Law Coalition, even though the coalition supported him in securing the position of Speaker of Parliament. He described the move as a betrayal that will not pass without consequences.

Speaking about the situation, al-Hamami said there are efforts underway to collect signatures to remove al-Halbousi from the speakership. He claimed that after gaining political advantages and securing key positions, al-Halbousi and his party shifted their stance and moved against their allies.

He also said the Coordination Framework blocs backed al-Halbousi strongly. According to him, the Coordination Framework — especially the State of Law Coalition — played a major role in convincing Muthanna al-Samarrai to withdraw from the race for Speaker, clearing the way for al-Halbousi.

Now, al-Hamami says, the political mood has changed. He stressed that turning against former allies after reaching a goal is seen as a serious breach of trust — and warned that there will be consequences.
