MP calls for raising the retirement age in Iraqi institutions to 63 years

Friday, Iraqi lawmakers Adnan Burhan called for raising the retirement age to 63 years old.

“Through our evaluation of the Unified Retirement Law No.” Burhan stated in an interview with 9 of 2024, particularly connected with the predefined age in Iraqi establishments, the significance of correcting it and trying to raise it to 63 years shows up, particularly with the presence of energies and aptitude that we are needing.”

He went on to say that “proceeding with the amendment has become a necessity and there are powers under the Iraqi constitution, stressing that the amendment will ensure the survival of competencies and expertise for a longer period in the workplace in light of the importance of having rare specializations, stressing that he will lead a parliamentary movement in this direction in order to strive to achieve it” and that “proceeding with the amendment has become a necessity and there are powers under the Iraqi constitution.”

“Amending the Unified Retirement Law enjoys the support of many representatives because the facts on the ground impose the options of amendment not in raising the retirement age but in other rights,” he stated.

It is interesting that the Council of Representatives decided in 2014 to set the retirement age for all of its institutions and approved the Unified Retirement Law. However, over time, it became clear that there was a need for a re-examination.”
