MP: Political disagreements are behind the postponement of many laws

Former member of the Parliamentary Legal Committee, Mohammed Anouz, said that many important laws were delayed and pushed to the sixth parliamentary session because of political disagreements between parties and blocs.

Speaking to dinaropinions.com, Anouz explained that these laws were supposed to pass during the fifth session, but constant disputes stopped that from happening. As a result, many draft laws were left sitting inside Parliament without any action taken.

He said the ongoing disagreements between political blocs were the main reason these laws did not pass. According to him, this delay directly affects the daily lives of citizens, since many of the stalled laws are linked to services and the economy. Because of this, they will now remain on hold until Parliament begins its sixth session.

Anouz added that delaying these laws has hurt Iraq’s service sector and economic situation. He stressed that the next government and the new Parliament must reopen these files, seriously discuss the postponed laws, and work to pass and implement them as soon as possible in the coming period.
