Yasser Al-Husseini, a member of the Council of Representatives, discussed the reasons why the Council of Representatives did not meet yesterday to vote on the Personal Status Law.
“There was a conviction to pass the Personal Status Law, but a disagreement between the Kurdish and Sunni components regarding the land return law led to the lack of a quorum for the session,” Al-Husseini said in a television interview.
“Concerns regarding the Personal Status Law are still ongoing,” Al-Husseini said.
It is interesting to note that supporters and detractors of the Personal Status Law amendment have held divergent views regarding its provisions, which is why it has sparked widespread debate in recent days.
