Alia Nassif said there may soon be new government positions created, including deputy prime minister roles and even a new Ministry of Tourism.
Speaking to Dinar Opinions, Nassif explained that the next phase could bring changes to the structure of the government. She pointed out that there are more than 190 Shiite members in parliament, and this could lead to demands for more positions to reflect their numbers.
She said everyone hopes that constitutional rights and power-sharing agreements will be settled within the legal time frame. Once that happens, ministerial posts can be divided among the different political groups and blocs taking part in the government.
Nassif also spoke openly about the political bargaining behind top positions. She said if the prime minister’s seat is treated like it has a “price” of 25 or 35 billion, it would show deep divisions among political forces. But if the presidency and other top posts are decided through national agreement, then the focus will likely shift to ministerial jobs — and their “prices” could go up.
She stressed that more talks are needed. Each political bloc wants its share based on its size and influence, and reaching an understanding will take time and negotiation.
