Oil Ministry Reviews Progress at Gas Growth Integrated Project (GGIP)

The Ministry of Oil has reviewed progress on the Gas Growth Integrated Project (GGIP) during a site visit to the Artawi (Ratawi) oilfield in Basra.

The inspection was led by Undersecretary for Extraction Affairs, Bassem Mohammed Khudair, who checked on several major projects being carried out by TotalEnergies, in partnership with QatarEnergy and the Basra Oil Company.

One of the key stops was the first Central Processing Facility (CPF1). Rehabilitation work there is now more than 80% complete and is expected to double production capacity, increasing output from 60,000 barrels per day to 120,000 barrels per day.

The visit also included the Artawi–PS1 export pipeline, where construction has reached 95% completion.

Mr Khudair reviewed progress on the accelerated gas investment project as well. This project has a design capacity of 50 million standard cubic feet of gas per day and aims to reduce gas flaring by capturing and using associated gas for productive purposes. The project is scheduled to be handed over in May 2026.

In addition, officials briefed him on the solar power project, which will eventually generate 1,000 megawatts of electricity. The first phase, expected to add 250 megawatts to the national grid, is planned to come online in March.

According to the ministry, work across all projects is moving forward steadily. Around 7,100 workers are currently involved, with 85% being Iraqi nationals, along with participation from several local companies.

Overall, the projects are seen as a major step toward boosting energy production, cutting waste, supporting clean power, and strengthening Iraq’s energy infrastructure.
