Oil MP rules out oil and gas law

Basem Al-Gharibawi, a member of the Oil, Gas, and Natural Resources Committee, said on Saturday that the Oil and Gas Law won’t be passed in its current form because there are many disagreements in the House of Representatives.

“The failure to pass the federal oil and gas law created a problem and confusion as a result of the political dispute between Baghdad and Kurdistan, which negatively affects the oil policy in the country,” Al-Gharibawi stated in an interview.

He went on to say that “the law is still in place due to disagreements between political forces regarding its passage, noting that there are points of contention that hinder the legislation of the law within the House of Representatives,” and he concluded by saying that “the law is still in place.”

He added, “The law has been confronting political debates beginning around 2005, in spite of the introduction of a brought together draft by the boards of trustees shaped between the district and the middle.”
