Parliament demands the economic feasibility of extending the Basra-Aqaba oil pipeline

Kazem Al-Touki, a member of the Oil, Gas, and Natural Resources Committee, demanded that the relevant parliamentary committees be informed of the economic viability of extending an oil pipeline between Iraq and Jordan today, Saturday.

Al-Touki said in a meeting with the , “The augmentation of the Basra-Aqaba oil pipeline faces conflicts over the sums apportioned, the significant expenses of the task, and its financial possibility.”

“The House of Representatives is in favor of diversifying oil sources, but not at the expense of the Iraqi economy,” he added, noting that “the Prime Minister’s recent visit to Jordan reduced costs, but they are still high.”

Al-Touki focused on the need of “introducing the Basra oil pipeline project as a deterrent to the Place of Agents and the Parliamentary Oil Advisory group to concentrate on the financial plausibility.”
