MP Walid Al-Sahlani, a member of the Parliamentary Electricity and Energy Committee, confirmed on Monday that Baghdad and the central Euphrates governorates are the most affected by the increase in power outage hours.
“If the distribution directors in the Ministry of Electricity continue to be subject to internal pressures,” Al-Sahlani stated, “The problem of the lack of supplies of electricity will remain for several seasons.”
Al-Sahalani criticized the Ministry of Electricity for its poor performance in collecting electricity fees, particularly from shopping malls, commercial stores, and other investment activities that could generate substantial funds for the ministry’s use in day-to-day power line and station maintenance.
He focused, “The board of trustees is determinedly and cautiously following up this record with the Service of Power.”
