Members of the Parliamentary Oil and Gas Committee, including Kazem Al-Touki, revealed on Monday that Kurds had obstructed efforts to resolve the oil and gas law and return it to Parliament for reading and vote.
In order to resolve the issues with the Oil and Gas Law and guarantee its passage through Parliament, Al-Touki stated, “Members of the Oil and Gas Committee communicated and moved towards the political parties and heads of blocs.”
In light of the government program’s emphasis on this file, he said, “Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani continues to work to terminate the aforementioned legislation and to establish a consensus formula agreed upon by everyone in order to settle the law and vote on it.”
The speaker said, “It is not serious enough for the Kurds to resolve the oil and gas law. There have been obstacles put in the way of this law, and it now needs political consensus before it is sent to the House of Representatives to be read and voted on.”
