Iraq Sees Inflation Drop in October
The Ministry of Planning announced on Saturday that inflation in Iraq has fallen over the past month. Both monthly and yearly rates showed a decrease, offering some relief for consumers.
Abdul Zahra Al-Hindawi, the ministry’s spokesperson, said that teams monitoring prices across all governorates found:
- Monthly inflation went down by 0.3% compared to September
- Annual inflation fell 0.5% compared to October 2024
What Caused the Drop?
Al-Hindawi explained that the main reason was a decline in food and drink prices, which dropped 0.5% overall:
- Fish prices fell 4.9%
- Fruits dropped 2.4%
The housing sector also saw a 1% decrease, while other sectors either rose slightly, fell slightly, or stayed about the same.
This is the first sign in a while of slower price growth in key areas that affect daily life, giving consumers a bit of breathing room.
