Azm Alliance leader Mohammed al-Dulaimi revealed on Friday that the Progress Party, led by Mohammed al-Halbousi, had punished an employee from the Anbar Electricity Department for taking part in political activities that went against the party’s views.
Speaking to dinaropinions.com, Al-Dulaimi said the employee was punished after attending an election event and taking a photo with Muthanna al-Samarrai, the head of the Azm Alliance, during his campaign visit to western Anbar.
“This move caused outrage among the people of Anbar,” Al-Dulaimi said, describing it as a clear violation of the law and an abuse of power for political purposes.
He accused the Progress Party of pressuring government workers to support its political agenda and vote for its candidates, even though many employees don’t want to get involved in politics.
“The idea that the Progress Party completely controls Anbar is just propaganda,” he said. “The Azm Alliance actually has a strong and active popular base in the province.”
Al-Dulaimi called on regulatory and judicial authorities to step in, saying, “Government employees are not servants of any political party. This kind of humiliation and exploitation of public office for political gain must stop.”
