Iraqi MP Miqdad al-Khafaji said on Sunday that there are strong efforts inside Parliament to pass the law related to the Popular Mobilization Forces.

He described the PMF as a “safety valve” for the country, saying it plays a key role in protecting Iraq from external threats and maintaining stability.

Al-Khafaji also warned about what he called recent targeting of the PMF by the United States and Israel. He said these actions are dangerous and could lead to a return of instability similar to what Iraq experienced in 2014.

According to him, such moves are an attempt to weaken a force that played a major role in defeating extremist groups and preventing the country from breaking apart.

He urged the Iraqi government to respond quickly and firmly to what he described as repeated violations of national sovereignty. He also criticized the international community for what he sees as silence on these issues.

Al-Khafaji called for a united national position to support PMF fighters, highlighting the sacrifices they made in defending the country.

He ended by saying that Parliament is determined to pass a law that protects the rights of PMF members and formally strengthens their role as a key part of Iraq’s security system.
