Seminar on Iraqi Investment Law for French Companies

The Iraqi Embassy in Paris recently held a seminar to introduce French companies to Iraq’s investment law and overall business environment. The event was organized in cooperation with the Arab-French Chamber of Commerce and took place on January 15, 2026.

The seminar brought together representatives from French companies and economic institutions who were interested in learning more about investment opportunities in Iraq. Discussions focused on how foreign companies can invest, what the laws allow, and how Iraq is working to create a more welcoming environment for investors.

During the event, Thaer Waheeb Hussein, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at the Iraqi Embassy, encouraged French companies to take part in projects across Iraq. He said Iraq now offers a strong and attractive investment climate that fits with current economic changes. He also stressed that foreign investment plays an important role in bringing new skills, better management, stronger production, and long-term human development.

The seminar also highlighted upcoming business events aimed at deepening cooperation between Iraq and France. These include the Iraqi-French Business Forum, which will be held during the 49th Baghdad International Fair from February 1 to 7, 2026, as well as the International Business Forum on February 5, 2026.

Raoul Delamare, President of the Arab-French Chamber of Commerce, said many French companies are eager to enter the Iraqi market. He pointed out that Iraq offers real opportunities in several sectors and noted that France has a long history of economic cooperation with Iraq, which both sides want to strengthen further.

The seminar was attended by several officials, including Ali Delamare, Representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government in France, Ali Adel, Deputy Commercial Attaché, and Ahmed Dawood Salman, Legal Adviser to the Iraqi-French Business Council. Salman gave a presentation explaining the incentives and benefits available to foreign investors under Iraq’s investment law. Russul Hazem Mahmoud, First Secretary and head of the embassy’s economic and organizations section, was also present.

Overall, the event sent a clear message: Iraq is open for business and looking to build strong, lasting partnerships with French companies.
