State of Law: The premiership has been decided for Maliki, and changing the map of sovereign ministries is a topic of discussion.

Former MP Jassim Mohammed Jaafar, a senior figure in the State of Law Coalition, said on Monday that Mohammed Shia al-Sudani’s withdrawal from the race for prime minister has effectively settled the issue in favor of Nouri al-Maliki.

Speaking to the Information Agency, Jaafar stated that the Coordination Framework has largely agreed to nominate al-Maliki as the next prime minister, especially after al-Sudani stepped aside in his favor. He stressed that the position is now guaranteed for al-Maliki.

Jaafar urged the leaders of the Coordination Framework to announce the nomination officially without delay, warning that postponement could lead to unnecessary speculation and political confusion.

He also noted that there is discussion among some political forces about revisiting the distribution of sovereign ministries, though no formal proposal has been made yet. According to Jaafar, one possible change could involve swapping the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the Ministry of Finance, with the Foreign Affairs portfolio potentially being assigned to Mohammed Shia al-Sudani.
