On Wednesday, Ali Al-Alaq, the Governor of the Central Bank, stated that there would be no addition of Iraqi banks to the US sanctions.
In an interview with the Iraqi News Agency, Al-Alaq stated that there is currently no indication from the American side regarding the inclusion of new banks in the sanctions. However, he noted that the Central Bank will be following up on the issue of banks that have been deprived of the dollar and will be reviewing, checking, and verifying them.
During a recent statement, the speaker mentioned that there are various proposals in the works to establish a trade process with Iran, along with a payment mechanism framework. The aim is to facilitate payment through the usage of Iraqi currency and by issuing special cards for this purpose. This announcement was made on the 25th of the month.
