The Diyala Provincial Council revealed that the province’s health department is facing a serious financial crisis, with debts now exceeding 30 billion dinars. One of the biggest problems is that cleaning companies working in hospitals have not been paid for many months.
Council member Aws al-Mahdawi said that all government departments in Diyala are struggling financially because Baghdad has not delivered the funds allocated to the province. But he stressed that the health sector has been hit the hardest.
According to al-Mahdawi, the Diyala Health Department is drowning in unpaid bills owed to companies and other financial commitments. The situation has become especially worrying in hospitals and major health centers, where cleaning companies are still working despite not receiving payments for a long time.
He warned that the financial situation across departments is extremely difficult and cannot continue like this. Al-Mahdawi called on Baghdad to come up with a flexible and clear plan to release the necessary funds so departments can pay their debts and keep essential services running.
