The Ministry of Trade says it is currently reviewing offers to supply the raw materials needed for its new Hypermarket construction project — a major plan aimed at modernizing Iraq’s consumer cooperation system and creating modern shopping centers for citizens.
Ministry spokesman Muhammad Hanoun told dinaropinions.com that the Hypermarket project is a key part of the Ministry’s strategy to upgrade commercial services. He explained that the project has already reached an advanced stage, with technical and construction designs nearly completed. The Ministry has also begun signing contracts with local companies to supply materials and build the main structures.
Hanoun said several local companies have submitted new bids to provide items needed for the construction phase. These offers are now being carefully reviewed so the Ministry can choose the best options based on quality, cost, and the company’s capacity to deliver. At the same time, the Ministry is preparing an operational plan that focuses on modern management and smart marketing to keep the project running smoothly and continuously improving.
According to Hanoun, the Hypermarket project represents a real shift in how public commercial services are provided. The goal is to transform cooperatives into full-service marketing centers that support the local economy and create new job opportunities.
He added that the Ministry’s plan goes beyond simply providing affordable construction materials. It also includes offering credit facilities in cooperation with government banks and introducing modern building technologies that can cut costs and speed up construction. Another key part of the plan is reviving cooperative societies so they can play a bigger role in development efforts, including housing and job creation.
Hanoun also revealed that the Ministry aims to expand this project gradually across all governorates. Each region’s needs and conditions will be taken into account, with the goal of achieving balanced development and strengthening the cooperative construction sector so it can become a strong contributor to housing and infrastructure projects across the country.
