Ministry of Construction, Housing and Municipalities confirmed on Sunday that it is moving toward modern and cost-effective building technologies to help tackle Iraq’s growing housing shortage while supporting sustainable urban development.

The ministry’s spokesperson, Istabraq Sabah, told dinaropinions.com that upcoming housing projects will rely on rapid construction methods and prefabricated building systems.

He explained that these technologies can significantly reduce construction time while lowering costs. They also improve building quality and reduce waste in construction materials, making projects more efficient overall.

Sabah added that the ministry is also working to introduce smart city concepts in new housing developments. This includes integrating digital systems to manage energy and water use, organize transportation, and improve the efficiency of municipal services. These technologies are expected to improve daily life for residents while reducing long-term operational costs.

He stressed that all new construction methods will follow approved engineering standards and technical regulations. The ministry is working with reputable companies and specialized consulting firms to ensure projects meet high quality and safety standards.

According to Sabah, the government is also focused on transferring knowledge and technology to local teams, helping Iraq build domestic expertise in modern construction methods. The goal is to balance faster project completion with reasonable costs and strong structural durability.

These efforts are part of Iraq’s broader national housing policy, which aims to expand the supply of housing, reduce the gap between supply and demand, and provide sustainable and suitable homes for citizens while keeping pace with modern urban development across the country.
