The official spokesman for the Ministry of Construction, Nabil Al-Saffar, says that 2026 will be the year Baghdad finally sees all the projects from the first traffic-easing package completed. Many parts have already opened over the past months, and only a few remain.

Al-Saffar told dinaropinions.com that just four major sections are left, including:

  • The second Al-Jadriya Bridge, which is part of the Abu Nuwas development project.
  • The Al-Qadisiyah Bridge.
  • The suspended bridge connecting the two levels, where the refinery bridge is already open as one part of the project.
  • The Gaza Bridge over the Tigris River, along with the Zaafaraniya and Al-Suraidat bridges. A portion of Al-Suraidat is already open as part of the Muhammad Al-Qasim connection to the Baghdad-Kirkuk road.

Al-Saffar said the ministry has already opened significant sections of these projects and that work is moving fast to finish everything else throughout 2026.

Package Two: Four big projects already in progress

Al-Saffar also explained that the second package includes four major projects now under construction:

  • The second Al-Sarafiya Bridge, where steel structures are currently being installed. The ministry earlier opened the Buratha overpass and the Al-Sarafiya overpass as part of the same project.
  • The New Baghdad Court intersection, which now includes three overpasses replacing the old Public Security intersection and the Jerusalem intersection, along with a new overpass on the Army Canal Road to ease traffic heading toward the municipalities and the nursery bridge.
  • The second Al-Quray’at Bridge, meant for vehicles, which has already been opened. This follows the earlier opening of the Al-Hurriya Bridge that connects Al-Kadhimiya to Al-Adhamiya.
  • The 60th Street intersection in Al-Dora, designed to improve traffic flow in the south of Baghdad.

Al-Saffar added that the remaining projects in this second package — including the full Muhammad Al-Qasim link to the Baghdad-Kirkuk road and several overpasses in the municipalities area — will also be completed in 2026. He stressed that these upgrades represent a major step forward for Baghdad’s transportation infrastructure.

He closed by saying the Ministry of Construction remains committed to raising service levels and easing traffic across the capital through long-term, strategic projects that will benefit citizens for years to come.
