The Ministry of Electricity announces a state of alert to deal with severe weather conditions and rainfall.

Iraq’s Minister of Electricity, Ziad Ali Fadel, has ordered all ministry departments to enter a state of full alert on Saturday as the country faces worsening weather and heavy rainfall.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Electricity, received by dinaropinions.com, the minister directed every formation within the ministry to take immediate action to:

  • support the Baghdad Municipality
  • assist municipal departments across all governorates
  • ensure that critical services remain powered during the storm

Essential Services to Remain Energized

Fadel stressed that electricity feeders supplying rainwater drainage stations, sewage facilities, hospitals, and health centers must be exempt from shutdowns, guaranteeing uninterrupted power during the severe weather.

Officials Ordered Into the Field

The minister also instructed:

  • all general managers
  • branch and sector managers
  • maintenance teams

to be physically present in their districts to oversee network conditions and respond rapidly to any issues. He emphasized monitoring feeders, checking power lines, and addressing citizen complaints without delay.

Emergency Response to Prevent Flooding

Control centers were directed to work at maximum capacity to restore any disconnected lines as quickly as possible—an essential move to prevent water accumulation and flooding in the streets.
