The second reduction in water releases from the Hamrin Dam has begun.

Officials in Diyala say water levels are being carefully managed, with another cut in water releases from Hamrin Dam.

Raad Maghamis al-Tamimi, head of the Agriculture and Water Committee, said this is the second reduction in just two weeks. Water flow has been lowered from 500 to 400 cubic meters per second.

He explained that the goal is to protect water reserves while still supplying the Diyala River. The dam is a key source of water, covering around 70% of the province through its network of rivers.

Al-Tamimi said this step is part of a bigger plan to balance how much water is stored and how much is released, especially as conditions change.

He also noted that water releases from Darbandikhan Dam are being reduced as well, to help preserve overall reserves.

Looking ahead, he warned that more cuts are likely, and water levels could drop further in the coming days.
