The Secretary General Of The National Product Calls For The Application Of Article 304 Of The Iraqi Penal Code To Protect The Dinar

On Sunday, Jassem Al-Amiri, the Secretary-General of the Parliamentary National Product Bloc, urged to enforce Article 304 of the Iraqi Penal Code to safeguard the dinar.

According to a statement from Al-Amiri’s media office, the government has taken measures to control the dollar exchange rate fluctuation. These measures include authorizing over 100 exchange companies to obtain their shares of the dollar. Additionally, since the United States has denied issuing any sanctions against Iraqi banks, the daily prices of the dollar have been significantly decreasing.

He stated that one of the reasons for the high value of the US dollar is due to certain individuals speculating that the US Treasury Department may impose sanctions on the central bank, leading to citizens becoming worried and angry. This has resulted in an increase in demand for dollars, causing the price to rise.

Al-Amiri has urged the government, particularly the Central Bank, to implement measures that will boost the confidence of Iraqi citizens in the use of the Iraqi dinar. He has also called for stern actions to be taken against those who manipulate the exchange rate, and for the activation of Article 304 of the Iraqi Penal Code, which imposes punishment and imprisonment on individuals who make false claims or spread rumors that can lead to a decrease in the value of the national currency or undermine trust in the country’s currency and bonds.

He noted that the inconsistency in the price of the dollar primarily affects the people, causing an increase in the prices of materials, particularly food items.
