The State of Law bloc announces it will not attend tomorrow's session to elect the president of the republic.

The State of Law bloc said on Friday it will not attend Saturday’s session to elect Iraq’s president.

In a statement, the bloc explained that there are still major disagreements between political groups. Because of that, it believes the session should be postponed instead of moving forward now.

The bloc said its decision is based on the need to create a calmer and more cooperative political atmosphere, one that can lead to better and more responsible outcomes for the country.

This comes at a time when the Coordination Framework is pushing to move ahead with the election, even if Kurdish parties—who usually agree on the candidate for this position—have not yet reached a deal.
