Abdul Sattar Fawaz Al-Dulaimi, a leader in the Azm Alliance, said on Friday that the United Nations has quietly confirmed the validity of maritime maps submitted by Iraq.

According to Al-Dulaimi, the UN informed Kuwait—in an unofficial way—that the Iraqi maps deposited with the organization are correct and supported by official documentation.

He said these maps prove Iraq’s right to manage the Khor Abdullah crossing and other nearby maritime areas that Kuwait allegedly tried to control during earlier periods of instability in Iraq.

Al-Dulaimi explained that Iraq’s decision to deposit the maps with the United Nations sparked diplomatic tension with Kuwait. He claimed the documents clearly show that these maritime areas have historically belonged to Iraq.

He also accused the Kuwaiti government of trying to send copies of the maps to other countries in an attempt to challenge Iraq’s claims.

Al-Dulaimi concluded by saying that such moves would not change the documented facts, stressing that Iraq’s evidence regarding its maritime rights is clear and officially recorded.
