On Sunday, Jassim Al-Bayati, a former MP, confirmed that the region had previously rejected the oil and gas law. He also stated that the area will leave the law in its current form, as it determines exports and imports, which do not align with their interests and desires.
Al-Bayati stated, “The region is deceiving itself by discussing the oil and gas law and claiming to support it, as it will never serve its best interests and will not fulfill its desires. This is because the law will result in all oil companies becoming partners with each other.”
“He said that the amount of oil and gas exports and imports will be determined by the oil and gas law, and the Kurds are aware of this fact. They believe that this law will limit the region’s potential, and therefore, their claim of supporting this law is nothing but a lie.”
“He said that the region had rejected the oil and gas law since 2008, even though the Council of Ministers had approved it and sent it to Parliament. The Kurds had stood against the law, rejected it, and even organized demonstrations to express their opposition.”
