Contractors and developers from the United Arab Emirates and Qatar are interested in building Iraq’s first elevated metro, which is scheduled to be constructed in the nation’s capital, Baghdad.
On Monday, bids were expected for the $2.5 billion metro project as well as another project, a planned rail line that would link Karbala and Najaf in central Iraq.
The transport adviser to Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, Nassir Al-Assadi, stated that the two projects will be open for investment. Furthermore, Al-Assadi said that companies from other countries participated in the auction, including Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, China, Italy, Spain, and Japan.
Once the Iraqi government has selected the businesses to carry out the two projects, a timeframe for their completion may be defined.
