Talks between the United States and Iran ended without a deal after long, intense negotiations in Pakistan.

US Vice President JD Vance said the discussions wrapped up with no agreement, mainly because Iran refused to commit to giving up nuclear weapons. He said the US has now put forward what he called its “final and best offer” and is waiting for Iran’s response.

Vance made it clear that Washington wants a firm promise from Iran—not just to avoid building a nuclear weapon, but also not to develop the ability to quickly produce one.

On the other side, Iranian state media also confirmed that the talks failed. They blamed the US, saying its demands were too high and unrealistic. According to them, Iran rejected pressure to give up key positions, including issues linked to the Strait of Hormuz and its nuclear materials.

Before the talks ended, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said the discussions were serious and covered major topics like sanctions, the nuclear program, war-related issues, and regional tensions. But they stressed that any progress depended on the US showing real respect for Iran’s rights.

The talks, which lasted nearly 24 hours, were seen as an important chance to reach some kind of agreement—but in the end, there was no breakthrough.

For now, a two-week ceasefire agreed on April 8 is still in place. However, it’s unclear whether it will last after the collapse of these negotiations.
