A source in Anbar province said on Thursday that Mohammed al-Halbousi, leader of the Progress Alliance, is currently in Jordan and has been there for more than two weeks.
According to the source, he traveled overland through the Trebil border crossing at the request of foreign parties. The claim is that he is staying in Jordan for now, waiting for a clearer role to be defined in line with policies linked to the Trump administration.
The source also alleged that al-Halbousi held private and unannounced meetings with officials connected to that administration, aiming to build a longer-term political partnership that could involve regional countries.
It added that some influential figures inside Iraq’s central government are aware of these movements, which are said to be part of efforts to shape future political directions with outside involvement.
The source further pointed out that al-Halbousi’s absence from the public scene happened around the same time Anbar cities faced attacks, raising questions about the timing of his trip and what might be happening behind the scenes.
