Ahmed Abdul Sattar Al-Dulaimi has made serious allegations about how the governor of Salah al-Din was chosen.
Al-Dulaimi said that Haitham Mahmoud Al-Zahwan won the position after more than 25 billion Iraqi dinars were paid to secure votes. He claimed that around 3 billion dinars were offered to each member of the local government in exchange for their support.
According to Al-Dulaimi, the negotiations were supervised by Muhammad al-Halbousi, head of the Progress Alliance. He said Al-Halbousi assigned people to negotiate with local council members to ensure the governorship went to his party.
Al-Dulaimi also criticized what he described as the silence of oversight and integrity committees, saying there was no effective monitoring of the voting process. He claimed the entire vote was “a charade” and said the outcome has created sharp tensions between Al-Halbousi and Muthanna Al-Samarrai, head of the Azm Alliance.
So far, there has been no official response mentioned regarding these allegations.
