World App Just Dropped Its Biggest Update Yet — Chat, Payments, Identity, and Mini Apps in One Place
World App has rolled out a huge new update, and it completely changes how people can talk, pay, and prove who they are online. This is one of the biggest steps the project has taken toward becoming a full social and financial platform for real, verified humans.
The update was announced on Dec. 11, and it brings major upgrades across chat, payments, identity, and global money movement.
A New Chat System Built for Real People
The new World Chat feature is now at the center of the app. It looks and feels like a regular messaging app, but with a big twist — every user is verified through World ID.
- Messages from verified users show up in blue bubbles.
- Profile photos are matched with the user’s Orb scan stored on their device.
- Fake accounts, bots, and impersonators are filtered out by default.
Inside the chat window, you can also send or receive crypto just like sending a text message. You can transfer money across borders, send payment requests, or even wrap your transfer in a fun animation if you’re gifting someone.
Group chats can even split payments, and Mini Apps can now open directly inside conversations. This allows users to run polls, prediction markets, simple games, or savings features without leaving the chat. Everything is end-to-end encrypted, and the app keeps no record of who messaged whom or when.
A Global Wallet With More Ways to Use Your Money
The update also makes the wallet much more powerful and useful around the world.
Virtual accounts, powered by Bridge, now work in 18 countries, including the U.S., Japan, Korea, Singapore, and several in Latin America. Each person gets their own account number, which can receive salaries or bank transfers. These funds instantly convert into USDC inside the app, with no fees charged by World.
Users can also switch between stablecoins and wrapped local currencies like wMXN or wARS.
The app is also adding a new earning feature called Earn, which gives verified humans higher reward rates on part of their USDC or WLD holdings. World says the human verification helps prevent fake accounts from spamming the system.
More than 100 tokens are now supported, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and even tokenized gold.
More Real-World Use Cases
The update isn’t just digital — it’s also expanding into everyday payments.
- In Argentina, users can now pay at more than one million merchants using QR codes.
- A World Card with Apple Pay support is coming early next year.
- World ID is adding new features like age checks, verified-human badges, and even a Tinder integration starting in Japan.
A Growing Network
Despite regulatory challenges in some regions, the World ecosystem continues to grow quickly. Someone joins the app every few seconds, and Orb verification numbers are rising as the project pushes its vision of a global layer for identity and payments.
With this update, World App is no longer just a wallet — it’s becoming a place to chat, pay, save, verify, and run mini apps all in one simple experience.
